The Missouri Northern is a proto-freelance layout based in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Set in 1985, it is a shortline railroad that operates the eastern-most portions of the former Rock Island line that stretched from Kansas City to St. Louis. The layout focuses on two large industries – a Ford Motor assembly plant and a Brewery which each have multiple switch jobs. A medium sized yard run by the yardmaster handles a local traffic Layout is DCC with digitrax. Walk around, one level shelves along the walls. No duckunders. Car card operation is used to forward freight and it is yard limits so no dispatcher needed.
